UK Authorities Crack Down on Child Exploitation Rings Using Encrypted Dark Web Platforms

Last updated:December 15, 2025

  • Law enforcement in the UK have launched a major offensive operation against child sex offenders who operate via uses of encrypted applications and the use of the dark web.

  • Recent successes in Gateshead and the Eastbourne Inner City region indicate the growing degree to which UK police forces are catching down-low suspects.

  • A 25-year-old man from Eastbourne admitted to facilitating major child abuse systems on Telegram as well as the dark web.

According to a report published today at the Lewes Crown Court, a 25yrs Joao Carlos Teixeira from Eastbourne, has entered a guilty plea to twelve counts of distributing images of child sexual exploitation.

Authorities have stated, through the National Crime Agency’s Extensive Investigation, that Mr Teixeira was the principal administrator of two large paedophile websites, Sugar Heaven and Naughty Room 3.0. These networks circulated thousands of horrific images featuring children under 12. This persistent threat on encrypted and dark web platforms highlights a critical failing, with organizations like UNICEF warning that digital companies are globally losing the fight against the spread of child sexual abuse material.

Rising Through Criminal Ranks

Teixeira wasn’t just a member of these disgusting networks. He climbed the ladder to become an admin after being voted in by other members. This gave him control over managing the groups and concealing their appalling criminal activity from law enforcement. According to the investigation, these networks work with a hierarchy as well as strict order, like a regular company.

Teixeira confessed to having more than 13,000 child sexual abuse images (more than half of which were classified as extremely serious) and also pled guilty to distributing indecent images between May and February. He is possibly the most frightening of all, helping exploit a 13-year-old boy sexually.

His defense tried claiming he intended to report a man he said molested him as a child. The judge was dismissive. The court made it clear that this does not lessen his guilt. He faces a heavy jail sentence when sentencing comes in February.

North East Crackdowns Deliver Justice

While investigators were dismantling Teixeira’s dark web operations, Northumbria Police was taking down an entire child exploitation gang in Gateshead. In total, five men received combined prison sentences of approximately 40 years for abusing multiple young girls aged 13-15 over several years.

They committed these crimes between 2014 and 2019, and authorities arrested them following a long-running investigation conducted from 2019 to 2020. After an eight-week trial at Newcastle Crown Court, the jury convicted all five men of 31 offenses, including multiple rapes, sexual assaults, sexual abuse, and the distribution of drugs used to facilitate child pornography.

The sentences were severe and deserved. Codrin Dura received 13 years for multiple rapes, attempted rape, blackmail, drug supply, and child sex offenses. Bogdan Gugiuman got 14 years for rapes and drug supply. Klaudio Aleksiu was handed 6 years for rape.

Leonard Paun received 5 years and 1 month for multiple rapes, sexual offenses with a child, drug supply, and spreading child abuse images. Stefan Ciuraru’s sentence spans 18 months for Sexual Assault and other offences.

In Sunderland, Taranvir Galsinh (45 years old) received 11 years and 3 months for raping as well as sexually assaulting two underage females. Galsinh had accommodated a girl of 14 years in a hotel where he molested and abused her, even paying her off afterward, and even a 12-year-old girl.

Encrypted Messaging Apps under Scrutiny

Subsequently, law enforcement warns that encrypted messaging apps like Telegram, dark web platforms, etc, aid criminals to succeed in heinous acts due to their anonymous nature. Despite this, agencies worldwide are scoring significant victories by infiltrating these spaces, as seen in a recent FBI dark web sting that led to the arrest of a mother and a registered sex offender. Regardless, the police are committed to dismantling child exploitation, alongside those with knowledge of abuse or suspicious activities.
