  • The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a suspected dark-web operation after a 77-year-old woman overdosed and passed away in Round Rock.

  • A large number of narcotics have been recovered, including a significant amount of other drugs, as well as certain electronic devices which are suspected of being used to purchase illegal drugs on the dark web using cryptocurrencies.

  • One suspect has been arrested and is presently housed in Williamson County Jail in connection with the death and illegal drug trade.

Texas Man Arrested After Deadly Overdose Linked to Alleged Dark Web Drug Sales

Officials in Texas have announced that they will be charging a Round Rock man with drug trafficking as a result of an ongoing investigation into an opioid-related overdose that led them to believe this individual may also have sold narcotics via the dark web.

This case is a representation of how dangerous illegal narcotic distribution via digital marketplaces and virtual currencies actually is.

The investigation began as a response to the possible drug-related overdose death of a 77-year-old woman in Williamson County, and drug transaction evidence through the purchase of narcotics via encrypted websites located within the dark web.

As of February 25, 2026, the Office of the Sheriff executed a search warrant that led to the seizure of considerable amounts of illegal narcotics, items related to the sale of illegal drugs, and electronics used for buying illegal drugs.

Seizure Came After a Deadly Overdose

According to law enforcement from the area where the woman died, they started to investigate when a 70-year-old woman died this month from a drug overdose that was not fentanyl.

Authorities do not yet know the cause of the overdose, but evidence being collected may show that illegal drugs were involved.

Detectives from the Organized Crime Unit secured a search warrant and executed it at a residence located on the 700 block of David Curry Drive in Round Rock.

During their search, they seized numerous quantities of different types of illegal substances that have a high street value. Some of the drugs found included:

  • 8.4g liquid LSD and 161 LSD tabs
  • 161g of psychedelic mushrooms
  • Some amounts of fentanyl, 5.1g
  • Methamphetamine (140g) and 310 meth pills
  • 26.1g of other controlled substances
  • Little amounts of marijuana, Xanax pills, THC wax, ketamine, and testosterone
  • One handgun with the magazine and ammunition
  • Items related to drug packaging, including baggies, scales, and electronic devices

In addition to the drugs, the deputies seized more than 20 cell phones, laptops, hard drives, USB drives, and SD cards that are likely to have evidence regarding the sale of drugs and transactions on the dark web.

Dark Web and Cryptocurrency Involvement

Sheriff’s Office personnel discovered that someone purchased the drugs on the dark web using cryptocurrencies to remain anonymous.

While the dark web can serve legitimate purposes, experts say many criminals use it to buy and sell illegal items, including drugs, weapons, and stolen goods.

Criminals often use cryptocurrency, a digital currency operating outside the traditional banking system, for these purchases because it is much harder for law enforcement to trace than conventional banking transactions.

The FBI has documented that many investigations regarding drugs purchased through the Dark Web involve the use of cryptocurrency, and therefore make the investigation much more difficult to complete.

The Sheriff’s Office believes that tracking these types of transactions requires sophisticated methods and coordination with other law enforcement agencies, as criminals often believe that they can remain anonymous by hiding behind an encrypted website and/or using an anonymous payment system.

Arrest and Ongoing Investigation

Authorities arrested Jeannot Robinson and booked him into the Williamson County Jail after executing a search warrant. He is being held on a $100,000 bond while they determine the charges. Deputies said Robinson could face charges for possession and sale of controlled substances, as well as weapons offenses.

Law enforcement officials told the public that the investigation is ongoing as they work to identify other individuals potentially involved in the suspected drug trafficking. Deputies also said they will examine the electronics seized during the search for evidence of dark web drug purchases.

The continuing increase in opioid use and abuse, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) statistics, has placed a significant burden on families and society through an escalating number of deaths due to drug overdose, especially with the influx of highly potent synthetic opioids, although this case did not involve drugs related to fentanyl usage.

While law enforcement tackles the physical harm of drug trafficking, they also battle the digital fallout of data breaches, like the Conduent incident affecting 25 million Americans, showing that the dark web’s impact on Texas communities comes in many forms, from overdose deaths to identity theft.

The federal, state and local law enforcement agencies are now trying to find and stop drug traffickers through greater use of digital investigations that will tie the online usage of a drug trafficker back to physical users and/or sellers.

Also, the deputies encourage the public to report if they suspect someone is dealing drugs or struggling with substance use. This will help reduce the risk of an overdose or death of a person who is abusing drugs due to the illegal drug sales within the communities.
