Notably, Wu had confessed to operating a huge illicit marketplace, named “FireBunnyUSA” that supplied over 10,000 parcels of MDMA, cocaine, Ketamine, and various other drugs to customers across all 50 US states.
The Manhattan Supreme Court sentenced the ring-leader, Nan Wu, sentenced to six-and-a-half years in jail.
Nan Wu Busted for Drug Trafficking in the US
Na Wu and his four accomplices were arrested in February 2023, after the group had laundered over $7.9 million via several dark web vendors. The group consisted of Peng Peng Tang, Zixiang Lin, Katie Montgomery, and Bowen Chen, and ran operations from January 2019 to August 2022, after which they were arrested and subsequently charged.
Katie Montgomery was an employee in the United States Postal Service (USPS) while running their illicit drug operations.
It’s worth noting that FireBunnyUSA ran operations from various dark web marketplaces, boasting of high-end delivery and anonymity.
The 39-year-old ringleader initially based in Flushing, where he distributed over 10,000 parcels of drugs, before moving his operations to Upland, California, prosecutors alleged.
According to prosecutors, investigators made 11 purchases from the FireBunnyUSA group, which comprises MDMA, cocaine, and Ketamine, which were transferred into Manhattan.
The group laundered $7.2 million, which comprised more than $3.1 million worth of proceeds, via digital asset exchanges, prosecutors charge.
During the apprehension in June 2022, police officers recovered over 1,200 MDMA pills, one kilogram of Ketamine, one one-half kilogram of MDMA in rock form. The officers also found various other shipping supplies and criminal drugs on him.
Wu Confesses to Allegations Railed Against Him
During his hearing at the Manhattan Supreme Court, Nan Wu pleaded guilty to the charges leveled against him. Wu admitted to money laundering and the illegal sale of controlled substances in April 2025.
In his plea, he agreed to surrender over 20 Bitcoin (BTC), 3,297 Monero (XMR), and $12,857 in cash found on him during the investigation.
The four other accomplices have pleaded guilty to the charges and are currently awaiting sentencing.
Additionally, while still awaiting sentencing in his federal lawsuit, he also admitted to conspiracy to supply and possess with intent to sell a controlled substance on June 11, 2025. As a result, federal prosecutors recommended a sentence ranging between 6 – 8 years in prison.
Wu’s attorney, Barry Zone, responded, noting that he expects both sentences to run simultaneously.
One of the prosecutors, District Attorney Alvin Bragg, commented on the crackdown. He noted that the operation was one of the bold attempts to use the dark web to hide a nationwide drug trafficking operation. Bragg added that, though the operations commenced on the dark web, they can still result in the same deadly drug-associated violence seen today.
